Bambino ace Alonzo de Oliveira will make a home race appearance this weekend as the second South African Rotax MAX Challenge round heads to Zwartkops Kart Raceway.

Alonzo had a solid opening round in Cape Town despite missing out on a podium placing and finishing fifth overall. "I will be hoping to be quick straight out of the blocks on Friday using every session to improve my setup and hopefully qualify my Parolin in pole position. KARTING | Toyota Gazoo Racing Junior Academy Head to Round 2 of SA Rotax MAX Challenge

Jason Coetzee Leads the DD2 Championship

With the second round of the South African Rotax MAX Challenge (SARMC) approaching, excitement is building for another chance for the Toyota Gazoo Racing Junior Academy (TGRJA) to showcase its exceptional talent. Six drivers across four classes will compete against the country's top Rotax karters as the championship moves to Pretoria and the Zwartkops Kart Raceway.

Jason Coetzee aims to extend his lead in the national DD2 championship, wanting to add to his single heat victory in the opening round. Meanwhile, fellow academy driver Karabo Malemela had endured a more challenging start to his season and sits in fifth place in the points standings. Nevertheless, both drivers are confidently heading to Zwartkops after solid performances in the recent Northern Regions Championship.

Reigning National Junior MAX Champion Kent Swartz had a tough start to his 2024 National Senior MAX Championship following an incident-filled opener. This weekend's race is crucial for Swartz to get his championship bid back on track, as he's currently placed 14th on the points ladder. Like Coetzee and Malemela, he will rely on his recent regional form, which saw him convincingly beat his rivals.

Following a low-scoring start to their National Junior MAX Championship, TGRJA regulars Reagile Mailula and Emma-Rose Dowling have a mountain to climb should they want to be in contention for national honours. The pair, who also performed admirably in their recent regional championship, will have to hope they can carry that form into this weekend's national in a class that is closely contested between most drivers.

Tshepang Shisinwana is the only representative from the academy in the Micro MAX class and is currently ranked second in the national championship standings. He will be eager to win at Zwartkops and secure the overall lead. With two podium finishes in the opening round and a strong performance in his recent regional outing, the team's youngest member has a strong chance of winning this weekend.

The national championship winner receives an automatic entry to the Rotax MAX Challenge Grand Finals, often called the "Olympics of Karting." Team South Africa's champions will carry the nation's hopes to Italy this season, competing against the best karters on the world stage. All the action is set to commence on Friday, and more information is available on the link below:

KARTING | TGRJA Aims to Regain Form as Regional Heads to Vereeniging

The Toyota Gazoo Racing Junior Academy (TGRJA) will head to Vereeniging Kart Circuit this weekend for Round 2 of the Northern Regions Rotax Kart Championship. Six drivers will again represent the academy across four Rotax classes as they compete in the Gauteng-based regional karting competition.

The academy's most junior driver, Tshepang Shisinwana, a multiple national champion, will again compete in the fiercely competitive Mini MAX class. Having already secured a podium finish, Tshepang is determined to regain his championship bid following his impressive fourth-place finish at the season opener in February.

In the Junior MAX class, Reagile Mailula and Emma-Rose Dowling are determined to improve their positions in the championship standings after a challenging start at Zwartkops Kart Raceway. Despite Reagile, a former national champion, securing a podium heat finish, the duo faced a tough initiation to their season.

The reigning National and Northern Regions Junior MAX Champion Kent Swartz has had a solid start to his season. Since moving up in class, Kent has shown a strong pace and, despite not having won a heat, walked away with a double podium and the overall victory in Round 1. He'll no doubt be looking to remain on top and claim that first win of the season.

In DD2, rookie driver Karabo Malemela leads the academy's charge among a talented group of drivers. So far, he has achieved a best finish of fourth and came fifth overall in the season opener. However, Karabo and teammate Jason Coetzee must work hard to regain some points in the championship. During the first round's opening heat, Jason had a tough time, which affected his overall results despite finishing fourth and third in the two final heats.

The excitement kicks off on Saturday with a Warm-Up Session ahead of Qualifying, followed by three race heats to conclude the day's action. We extend a warm welcome to all spectators, with entry being free of charge. Join us and be a part of this exhilarating racing experience.
